Instructions for Installing the Drivers on the Frontends
- Frontend 1 (pc809)
After a reboot of pc809, you must re-install the driver for the VME interface.
To install the driver follow these steps:
If you're on another pc, first connect to pc809:
otherpc]$ ssh -Y pibeta@pc809

enter canonical pibeta password
Then,
pc809 ~]$ su -

enter canonical pibeta password
pc809 vme]# cd ~pibeta/vme
pc809 vme]# ./vme_c
pc809 vme]# ./vme_i
vme_c compiles it, and vme_i installs the driver. vme_e should give warnings and messages, and you
should see "Installed VME Universal Module version: 3.6"
To check if it was installed, you can do the following.
pc809 vme]# lsmod
You will see a list of drivers.
Remember to exit super user mode.
pc809 vme]# exit
- Frontend 0 (pc6166)
After a reboot of pc6166, you must re-install the drivers for the CAMAC
interface.
If you are on another computer, first connect:
anotherpc]$ ssh -Y pc6166

enter canonical pibeta password
pc6166 ~]$ su -

enter root password, NOT canonical pibeta password
To install the CAMAC driver follow these steps:
(Note: The name of the CAMAC driver is khyt1331, kernel hytec 1331)
pc6166 ~]# cd ~pibeta/camac/new
pc6166 new]# ./install.sh
You might see one error, which you should ignore. It first tries to unload
the driver, before it loads it. But if the driver was never loaded, it can't
find it, and gives an error. Don't worry about it.
You should see a message saying that it finds 2 interface cards. Similar to the
following:
CAMAC crate 0: responding
CAMAC crate 1: responding
CAMAC crate 2: responding
CAMAC crate 3: responding
CAMAC crate 4: responding
CAMAC crate 5: Not responding
CAMAC crate 6: Not responding
CAMAC crate 7: Not responding
Crates 0-3 are in the electonics hut. Crate 4 is on the detector.
To check if they are responding you can:
pc6166 new]# cat /proc/khyt1331
which should give you up to date information, e.g. if the cable is switched
on or off. Can tell you if a cable is broken.
Now we should have /dev/camac since it is made in the install script.
pc6166 new]# ll /dev/ca*
Check its permissions. And if necessary:
pc6166 new]# chmod 666 /dev/camac
Don't forget to leave superuser mode.
pc6166 new]# exit
- Frontend 2 (pcp027992)
How to load the digitizer driver (necessary to do after rebooting
pcp027992).
Here are the instructions for re-loading the digitizer driver:
ssh -Y sluser@pcp027992 (enter the regular pibeta password)
su - (enter the regular pibeta password)
cd /mnt/home_par/AcqirisLinux/linux2.6driverpci
make
make install
cd ..
./drv-install add
./drv-fix
exit
exit
